FAMILY STORIES

The Brown Family

In August of 2019, Maria, age 18, and Mary, age 10, and their mom and uncle flew from Spanish Town, Jamaica to Detroit so the girls could undergo a series of surgeries at Beaumont Hospital for a genetic condition. The family called the Ronald McDonald House of Detroit their home for eleven months, leaving in July of 2020.

Throughout the pandemic, Mary and Maria remained in the Ronald McDonald House. It’s a safe haven for them and a place to call home during a difficult time. Though so many hospitals switched their focus to caring for Covid-19 patients, Mary and Maria continued to need care for their condition, follow up appointments for their surgeries, and visits with their doctor.

“I love everyone here!” said Mary.
